Camping trip to Cheddar 6th of September

This one is not for the faint-hearted! I'm planning a "back-to-basics" camping trip in the wilds of Cheddar on the 6th of September. The only amenities is a toilet "shack" in the corner of a field on a farm, but we can have a real camp-fire and there is a pub nearby.

The general plan is to leave Saturday midday, have a pub lunch then go for a walk. In the evening I shall provide a b-b-q, then plenty of drinking around the campfire - any musicians will be welcome! Returning to Bristol after breakfast on the Sunday.

If you are interested in coming, please let me know which date you prefer. In addition, let me know if you will be bringing your own tent (I have spares) and if you are veggie.

What is Bristol Active Social Club?

Bristol Active Social Club has around 100 members (male and female) and was formed in September 2002.

Unlike some other profit making clubs in the Bristol, you don't have to pay £25 or £40 to turn up at one of our events. There are no membership fees or forms, it is purely a friendship thing. The emphasis of the group is to improve your social circle, meet other people of a similar age and generally have fun. We are quite a young club, with the majority of members in their late twenties to late thirties.

Members are encouraged to suggest and help organise different events. In the past, we have organised various events in Bristol and Bath. These include pub crawls, theatre, badminton, pub quizes, walks, gigs, house-parties, comedy clubs, quizes, meals out and festivals. We also have a pub night in Central Bristol every month and at least one event held per week.

Members come from all different backgrounds and occupations. We have single, married, engaged and divorced people coming along and also people from foreign countries. Everyone one is welcome so please come and join us. It is a friendly and relaxed atmosphere and can really make a difference to your social life!

Convinced? If you are interested in Bristol Active please contact Rich (email: bristolactive@hotmail.com). He will add your email address to our mailing list, so we can keep you informed of upcoming events. We do publicise some events on this website, but the list is not complete as we do not post personal phone numbers, email addresses or postal addresses on there. This is for personal safety of our members.

The other thing you need to do is to actually come along to some event! The pub nights are a good place to start, as these tend to be the nights when see the most people.

Hopefully, there is something for everyone in our event calendar. However, you can be assured that there will be no pressure from us for you to attend events.

For more of an idea of what it is like, there are plenty of pictures of previous events here on the website.

Camping Trip 6th Sept

On the 6th we will meet up at Queen Square, next to Hole in the Wall pub, between 1-2pm for those who want a pub lunch first, departing 2pm in convoy. Can people let me know if they have room in the car to give lifts?

Alternatively if you want to make your own way there, take the A38 towards Cheddar. Turn off onto A371 for Shipham (just past a petrol station). Continue through the village of Shipham and turn left just BEFORE a scrumpy shop. Continue for about a mile, Longbottom Farm is on the left.

If you have any queries, please contact me.

See you all soon, remember to bring warm clothes!!

Salsa Dancing Thursday 4th September

If you've thought about sampling some Latin rhythms and even attempting to move parts of your body in time with them ... and have considered trying a Salsa dancing class but it has all been that bit too scary to actually go ... now is your chance to go as part of a group (at least you won't be the only total beginner!)

Place: The Steam Rock, King Street (opposite the Old Vic)
Time: Meet us outside at 8.00 (or inside if you're late or tis raining)
Date: Thurs Sept 4th
Cost: £4.50
Clothing: Anything ... comfortable shoes advisable, sparkly tops are far and few between ...
Format: Given this is Sept, there are sure to be a sizable number of first-time dancers ... teaching should start with the most basic steps and assume no previous experience.
8.15 practice session of some steps used in the class (3 classes at same time, beginners improvers and intermediate/advanced)
8.30 Warm up for everyone ... not in couples, copy the teacher type-thing
8.40 3 Separate classes
9.45 'Latin Disco' as they call it ... a chance to practice!

Loads of other people come without a partner so don't worry you don't have to try to find your own partner or experience any rejection!
